South East pharma industry
South East pharma industry is a rapidly growing and emerging market. In general, this industry has become more lucrative in recent years as remunerations have increased and regional governments have made healthcare segmented growth on priority.
In addition, country governments are actively investing in the sector, and opportunities for contract manufacturing are growing at an exponential growth.
Geopolitical stability, gradually rising living standards and the introduction of universal healthcare systems is fuelling investor interest across South East Asia – particularly for Indonesia, which is home to the largest and fastest growing market.
Indonesian pharmaceutical industry has gained high market growth in the recent years. The market has a large, growing population and a steadily mounting economy. Moreover, rising rates of chronic diseases like cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are also affecting the market in a positive way.
Due to growth in government investment in healthcare infrastructure through implementation of universal healthcare plans, the region has experienced a growing demand in medicine, especially generic drugs. This trend, along with the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community has opened up the doors for trading between countries in the region as well as a demand for foreign investment. South East Asia is expected to generate $40 billion in pharma sales by 2020.
Despite the fact the South East Asia region has recently experienced an increase in government investment in healthcare infrastructure, the region is still generally viewed by some international life sciences companies as secondary to traditional mainstay markets. One of the challenges then is to increase international knowledge and partnerships with local companies.
CPhI expo, a global platform
The growth in the region’s market shows a need for local knowledge for successful entry. By uniting pharmaceutical industry leaders in the region with foreign investors and partners, CPhI South East Asia will be providing a global platform for innovation and collaboration. The event, specifically the Investment Forum and Business Matching programme, will be giving attendees the opportunity to build valuable relationships with potential partners and work towards achieving the region’s potential.
The theme for CPhI South East Asia’s seventh edition will be “Accelerated Growth and Development of Pharmaceutical Industry in South East Asia.” The event will include the returning Innovation Gallery featuring the top innovations in the region, as well an Exhibitor Showcase allowing pharma companies to network and collaborate with potential partners.
Other co-located events include P-MEC, InnoPack, ICSE and Health Ingredients South East Asia.
While LABworld South-East Asia will be dedicated to laboratory, analytical and biotech equipment, ICSE will be dedicated to the contract manufacturing and services sector and InnoPack to pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery systems.
Developed around the events’ theme; “Accelerating Growth and Development of Pharmaceutical Industry in South East Asia,” CPhI SEA 2018 will stage various interactive sessions throughout the duration of the event. The modules, running on March 28 and 29, will focus on three main themes: API, Bio and Natural Products.
The keynote addresses will be on “Policy and Regulation for Pharmaceutical ingredients to Ensure Safety, Quality, Efficacy and Affordable Medicine”, “Global Regulatory and Standardization Issues for Biological
Products in the Development of Biopharmaceutical in South East Asia”, and the “Regulatory Reform to Drive Innovative and Compliant Herbal Medicines Competitiveness.”
The conference will also include contributions from the United States Pharmacopeial Convention on “Managing Sustainability of Quality API in Pharmaceutical Manufacturer.” In addition the event will host an Exhibitor Showcase where leading companies will present their latest research and product news and discuss industry wide trends.
This year the event will be welcoming the best pharma ingredients professionals, packaging experts, machinery providers and contract manufacturing, as well as nutraceutical companies from across the region – facilitating a strong collaboration between the health and pharma industries.
Last year’s CPhI SEA event attracted 5,500 attendees and 260 exhibitors. The sixth annual event had three major highlights: the expanded Distributor’s Network, an ASEAN-India trade forum, and the Investment Forum .
The bouquet of events at the leading trading and conference platform in the Association of
South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), will bring together local, regional and international pharma experts to do business, learn, share ideas and shape the future of the region’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
